015 - POKE

Author Notes

I wrote POKE back in 2023, around the time we were concepting what the shorts would look like. I was using it as a character exploration piece, pulling from a comic strip I made back in high school. It was really barebones, only being three panels long, but I felt the premise fit the trio’s dynamic pretty well!

I shared the script with Kalil and Irvin, and a few days later it was added to the “dumping ground” doc we created for the shorts. It was a few years before Kalil got to drawing it, but when he did it was a surreal experience. I know the advice of killing your darlings, but I genuinely love bringing back old ideas and giving them a fresh coat of paint.

PS: Remember how in ASTERALES Kalil said he can’t write? Well, most of these early shorts were written by him!
